Happy New Years!!

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years Everyone!

I could  tell you that I'm about to walk out the door on my way to a great new years party. I could tell you about the festive makeup, cute stilettos and silver dress I have on. I could tell you about how much fun I'm going to have as I dance, drink Moscato and watch the ball drop at midnight. I could tell you about all those things but I would be lying my butt off.

I just got home from work about an hour ago and have been playing with baby girl. My new years eve plans are pretty non-existent. I will be at home watching Cat in the hat with baby girl. I'm pretty sure that I will not be up to watch the ball drop because I have to wake up at 4AM...yes, you read that right. The hubby is at work and I will be sleep before he gets home; so there goes my midnight kiss. Although this might all seem like a sad night; I am content with being at home in the comfort of my bed.

I can't wake up to a fresh new year with lots of new challenges, adventures, and changes. My one word for 2011 is HAPPY!! I will be HAPPY this year. So often we  concern ourselves with making sure that everyone around us is happy that we neglect our own happiness. My first goal is working out and eating healthy so that I can be HAPPY with my body (inside and out). So I am taking that time for myself to make me HAPPY.

I hope that everyone has a HAPPY and safe New Years!!

See you next Year!!!!!!

New Year's Resolutions

I felt that this cartoon accurately explains what a New Year's resolution is. I can't tell you how many time I have wrote down my resolutions sealed them up and then read them at the end of the year; only to find that I had not accomplished but maybe one of them.

Don't get me wrong...I'm all about setting resolutions but there has to be some planning to go along with it. Just writing down on a piece of paper that you want to lose weight, pay off debt, or whatever you choose; will not magically make it happen.

This year I will be setting goals for the new year not resolutions. At work we create what they call SMART goals. I have found that this is very helpful not only in my professional life but my personal life as well.

For those that don't know what SMART stands for:

Specific - your goal can not be too ambiguous. It has to be clear what the goal is.
Measurable - There has to be a way to measure when the goal is reached
Attainable - What is the plan to get to the goal
Realistic or Relevant - It is great to set high goals but they should be realistic. (I would never set a goal to completly stop eating candy...not gonna happen in this lifetime)
Timely - What is the time frame for completing the goal (set a time and stick to it)

I am going to use one of my New Year's resolutions goals to show you how I am going to turn it into a smart goal.

My goal: Lose Weight

S: I want to be able to fit into my size 4 jeans without feeling like the button is going to pop off into somebody's eye. Also I want to get down to 130.
M: This can be measured either by simply trying on my jeans and weighing myself weekly.
A: I plan to achieve this goal by working out at least 5 days a week for 30+ minutes. Drink 6 glasses of water daily, and monitoring how many calories I take in.
R: My goal is pretty realistic. I am currently at 136 and wearing a size 6 jeans. The time I have set to achieve me goal is also realistic.
T: I want to reach this goal by my 30th birthday (24 more days).

After I have reached my goal I will rework it to help me maintain my weight. Also keeping you goals somewhere visual as a reminder is a great way to not forget your goals.

I hope that this was helpful.

I would love to hear some of the goals you would like to accomplish in 2011....

It's Crunch Time

I can't believe that in 25 days I will officially be 30-year old. In one of my earlier post I talked about how I want to get my swagger back. I've made some baby steps but I'm not quite there yet

I have to admit that I have been slacking during the holidays on my diet and exercise. My goal is to get back down to 130 by my birthday. I'm only 9 pounds away from my goal but these darn 9 pound don't seem to want to go anywhere. Or maybe it's just the bag of lemonheads that I eat every other day. Either way; something has go to give. I will be able to fit into my jeans by my birthday.  So, I am back on my mission to get fine by my birthday.

Speaking of my birthday. I have NO ideal what I'm going to do for my birthday. I want to do something big since it's one of those milestone birthdays. I decided to take one of my vacations the week of my birthday. It's against my rules to work on my birthday...it's my personal holiday.

Anyone have any ideals for what I should do for my birthday?

Fun while it lasted

I hope the everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is enjoying spending time with their families. I had a great Christmas and baby girl got everything that she wanted (of course)! I hope Santa was good to all of you as well.

Here are a few pics of my wild child enjoying her Christmas:

Santa got her a camera (just like mommy's). There were a lot of pictures of the floor and walls taken today.

I think the lip gloss was her favorite present

Another one of her favorites was a book my mother gave her. It's one of those book where you record your voice reading it. She loves that Grandma can read to her anytime she wants

I enjoyed my few days off but it's time for me to go back to work.

*boo*

Well, I can't really complain...I'm blessed to have a job.

An award for me?!?

What the flip?!? Whoop Whoop

My good friend over at DaLa Chanelle has given me the Stylish Blogger Award. I am so humbled right now. I feel so caught off guard...I don't even have an acceptance speech prepared.

Umm...who do I thank?

First of all I want to thank God for giving me the mental capacity to even be able to blog and all of my WONDERFUL readers who keep me going...

OK, but seriously let get back to business.

I have to let you guys in on 7 facts about my self; so here we go

  • Growing up I was the biggest tomboy you have ever seen. I would dare my mother to put a dress and a cute bow on me. Now I'm one the girliest (is that at word?)  people I know.
  • My biggest pet peeve is rude people. Do I need to start and etiquette course for these people? Because I will.
  • I am addicted to shopping. I mean REALLY addicted...ask my husband
  • My favorite restaurant ever in life is Olive Garden. I can eat their salad and breadsticks all day long.
  • I wished store carried egg nog year-round
  •  The only thing that I like about winter is being able to wear sweaters and boot without people looking at me like I'm crazy.
  • I am a closet nerd (well, not anymore...my secret is out).
OK, so now I'm off to tell all my awardees know about this wonderful award.

I can finally breathe...

Today was my first day off in Eight days. You can imagine how tired I am. Not only did I have to work all those days in a row. My teacher apparently had it out for me as well. The week before Christmas we had to read five chapters, do a team paper, an individual paper, six discussion questions, a test, plus our participation points. I am so thankful that I made it through last week. We actually get two weeks off for a winter break. This is so needed because I've been in school with not even a day break since April. So I am going to enjoy not having to come home from work and work on homework. Heck, I might actually be able to get some blogging in.

*Fingers crossed*

So now it is time to get ready for my first Christmas here at my home. I finally got done with all of my shopping today. Thank God for online shopping and overnight shipping. Shopping in always the hardest part of the Christmas season. I never know what to give people, because I know how picky I am.

Things have been pretty fun here with the elf on the shelf. I didn't think my daughter would be old enough to really understand the concept but she loves it. Every morning she wakes up and  rushes to find  Doctor (that's what she named him) the elf and say good morning.  It was so cute this morning Doctor was on her toy bike and she was trying to push it into the bedroom to show us and Doctor fell off. She wouldn't touch it because it would have lost its powers. Its amazing how much she understand concepts that I wouldn't think she would.

Today was mama's relaxation day. I sent little bit off to school and the hubby was at work. I was able to get a good workout in and relax for a while. Then I went to lunch with one of my girlfriends that I hadn't seen in about a year. I really enjoyed  being able to relax without having to worry about work or school work. What a great feeling. Too bad I'm only off  two more days.

Oh well....

Are you ready for Christmas?

Toy Story 3 saves the day

Last week I have four whole days off in a row....that NEVER happens. I was so excited. I was going to get to spend some time with baby girl, get some housework and homework done, and maybe even get a little rest.

A girl can dream can't she...

I had baby girl by myself because the hubby was working 12 hour shifts that weekend....

*PAUSE*

I had to pause and give props to all the SAHM and WAHM. I am in awe of how you guys do it *bows down to you*

That little girl ran me ragged. All day long it was "mommy chase me", "mommy run with me", mommy let's walk Missy, "mommy....."; you get the point. My response was "Put that down", "don't touch that", "get down from there".

By 7:00 that night I was ready to go to bed. Oh, and did I mention that there was no naptime that day? somehow I made it to 9:00 without submerging my head into a pot of boiling water.

The next day I was determined to keep her busy and wear her out. Being that she is my daughter; she wanted to go to the story (this is an everyday occurrence). So we decided to take a trip to Walmart. I figured we could kill at least an hour here as long as she doesn't start showing her tail.

We were looking around the electronics section and something caught her eye "mommy...mommy... I want woody." I had no ideal what she was talking about and then I turned around and saw it....the Toy Story 3 DVD.

I didn't really want to get it because she has never really been into watching television. She has several DVDs that she causally will glance at when its on. Against my better judgement I bought the DVD to keep her from throwing one of her ear-shattering tantrums.

When we got home she said she wanted to watch Woody. I honestly wanted to see the movie myself; it's that kid in me that never grew up. So I popped in the DVD and guess what?!?

She sat down and watched 40 minutes of the movie without getting up. Of course I had to sit and watch it with her and she was asking questions the whole time. I didn't care...it was just nice to actually sit down for a few minutes.

I am in love with this DVD and it doesn't even bother me that we have to watch it 20 times a day. I know the whole movie by heart now...

THANK YOU TOY STORY 3!!!

You have saved my sanity

Meet Me on Monday!! 12-06-10

It has been a while since I've joined in on Meet Me on Monday. It is always so much fun to let people get to know a little bit more about me and to get to know others. Here are a few little tidbits about me that I'm sure you couldn't make it through your week without knowing....j/k

Questions:

1.  What is your favorite kind of cheese?
I'm actually really funny about cheese. I only like cheese if it is on pizza, broccoli and nachos, oh and broccoli and cheese soup..yum, my favorite.

2.  What size is your bed?
My bed, one of my favorite places to be is a nice king-size bed with a great pillow-top mattress. We have to have a king-size bed because someone sleeps like a crazy person...I won't name names(me).

3.  What is your most overused phrase?
I have so many overused phrases that it is so hard to pick just one. If I can choose just one I guess it would be...."are you serious(ly)?" I tend to always ask that question; knowing full well if they are serious or not.

4.  Green or purple grapes?
Growing up all we ever ate were green grapes but now I am in love with seedless purple grapes. They are a lot sweeter than the green grapes and we all know how I love my sweets.

5.  Shower, morning or night?
It sometimes depends on my work schedule but I usually like to bathe in the morning. It helps me to wake up and start my day.

Jingle Bells Batman Smells

It is officially that time of the year. That time when you hang the stocking with care, put up the tree and decorate while listening to Christmas music. Time for backing cookies, sending out family Christmas cards, buying tons of gifts, and family dinners.

I have to be honest...

I don't look forward to this time of the year.  It has been years since I have been excited about the holiday season. I wasn't always like that. I used to LOVE this time of the year. It was my favorite holiday....other than my birthday (Yes, that is my personal holiday).

I vividly remember Christmas time growing up. We would go out to pick out a Christmas tree on the first weekend of December.  It was alway a big ordeal in our house. It seemed like the tree would get bigger and fuller every year. My dad and brother would trim the tree in the garage while my mom would get the ornaments out of the attic and spend hours trying to untangle the lights from the year before. Then of course we had to test the light out to see if they still work. My theory is just throw them away and buy new ones...but that's just me.

Then the fun would begin. My dad would put on the Temptations Christmas CD and the singing and dancing would commence. It's amazing because I remember that we started with a record moved to the cassette tape and finally to the CD. Decorating the tree together was always fun. My brother and I would fight over who was going to put the angel on top of the tree.

The night before Christmas we would bake cookies for Santa...I don't know how he fits down the chimney with all those cookies he eats. When I was little I would have to sleep in my brothers room on the top bunk bed so that I wouldn't sneak downstairs and open presents. That didn't really work well. My brother and I had opening presents down to a science...you cut along the seam on the bottom, take a peek and tape it back up.

Then when 5AM hit...it was officially on. We would run into our parents room to wake them up and run down stairs. We would have to sit on the couch and wait until my parents got their cup of coffee. We would then proceed to rip the present to shreds trying to get them open while my dad video taped it all for evidence(I think).  Those were the days.!!

Now things are different. Once My parents got divorced Christmas was never the same. It didn't have the same feel but I still had the Christmas spirit. Once my dad passed away I think my Christmas spirit died with him. He was one of the major players in making Christmas time so special for me.

I have a family of my own and my daughter now and I want here to have to special Christmas memories that I had. So I am trying to get back into the Christmas spirit.  I'm having a hard time getting back into it partly because of me and my husband's work schedules. With my husbands new job we are having to work opposite schedules. He works in the mornings and I work mainly at night.  It is very rare that we are both home at the same time...unless we are asleep.

There are so many things that I want to do as a family this Christmas but I don't know how we are going to work things out. I am determined to make Christmas a special time of year for my family. Anyone have any tips they would like to share?

Let's Take Care of Home

Please excuse my mini mid-day rant. I just had some stuff on my mind that I wanted to share. I am an advocate for charity and volunteer work; so please don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way.

In the United States of America; we are so quick to start a relief project or send money and food to other countries. I understand that these places need help and assistance.

BUT WHAT ABOUT HOME?!?

We have millions of people here dying of HIV/AIDS, we have an enormous amount of homless and hungry people, places stuck by natural diasters that still haven't been rebuilt, and don't get me started on our national debt.

Why do we always send our money and resources elsewhere when it can do just as much good here at home?

World AIDS Day 2010

I'm believing in a cure!

Today is World AIDS Day and for those that don't know; I am an avid support of causes that are looking to help to improve the state of the world.  World AIDS Days begun in 1988 to help bring awareness to this horrible disease.

Here is a fact sheet compiled this month about the AIDS epidemic in the United States.

This year Alicia Keys and her organization Keep a Child Alive are on a mission to raise $1 millions dollars to help provide treatment, love and support to families affected by HIV/AIDS.

Starting today several celebrities will begin boycotting social networking in order to call attention to this cause. If you would like to make a donation you can text "BUYLIFE" to 90999 or you can go to BuyLife.org.

There are many other ways that you can get involved. For information you can go to these websites:
